In an interview to Uzbekistan 24, the Employment and Poverty Reduction Minister, Behzod Musayev commented on the signing of an intergovernmental migration and mobility treaty with Germany.

The Germany medical and transport sectors need manpower, so German language courses will be launched in Uzbekistan for those who wish to work in Germany.

“This is the first step towards establishing a transparent, organized migration process. Today, we agreed with the German railway company Deutsche Bahn on training bus and railway drivers, and together with Globogate on training nurses. This year, over 800 nurses from Uzbekistan will depart for Germany, 400 of them have already arrived, the rest are taking language exams. Their take-home salary is at least 2,200 euros,” the minister added.

He noted that facilities will be provided for Uzbeks to study high technologies in mechanical engineering, transport and the medical sector in Germany.

“This treaty can be called historic. If India and Germany have been preparing this agreement for 6 years, then taking into account the strategic relations between Uzbekistan and Germany, this comprehensive document was prepared and signed within a year. Today's agreement covers not a 1-5-year period, but a 10-20-30-year timeline,” said Bekhzod Musayev.

The agreement will also consider simplified visa procedures; it is planned to sign such agreements with many employers from Germany, he said.

In April 2022, the Agency for External Labor Migration reported that, as part of cooperation with the Swiss Globogate Recruiting, a program was developed to hire experienced mid-level nurses to hospitals in Germany. At the end of August this year, the agency reported the continuation of recruitment for German language courses.

At a meeting between the Minister Musayev and the CEO of Mangold Consulting in March, it was reported that more than 1,000 hospitals in Germany were understaffed, and while metallurgy, logistics, and transport were short of labour. Uzbekistan authorities then stated that the country was ready to fill this gap.
