Driver in a GM Gentra hit a 19-year-old girl at a crosswalk in Shaykhantakhur district of Tashkent at high speed. The victim died on the spot from her injuries.

The accident occurred on September 18 at 11:30 at the intersection of Samarkand Darvoza (probably Kukcha Darvoza) and Abu Ali Ibn Sino streets.

The 28-year-old driver hit the girl when she was crossing the crosswalk at a green light.

According to eyewitnesses, the girl was alive for some time after the accident, and the driver refused to take her to the hospital. She died before the ambulance arrived.

“Someone shouted that a girl was hit. I went down and saw that the girl was lying in serious condition. I told the driver to help me lift her. He, holding an [electronic] cigarette in his hand, replied: “I won’t put her in the car.” After some time, the girl's mouth started bleeding and she died. But the guy didn't provide the first aid. The driver was driving at a very high speed, he should have let the person cross at the pedestrian crossing. The girl was alive while I was going down from the seventh floor and arrived at the scene. She died 5 minutes later. The ambulance arrived later," said one of the witnesses to the accident.

"The car was driving at high speed from Aktepa. The driver said he was driving at 70-80 km/h, but I don't believe him. Because if he had been driving at 70-80 km/h, he wouldn't have hit her so hard. The car was driving very fast, and the girl was thrown 15 meters as a result of the impact. Gentra crashed into a traffic light and a power line support," said another eyewitness.

“After hitting the girl, the driver got out of the car and said: ‘I will not load a dead person into my car.’ The driver did not have an ounce of regret. If he had helped right away, the girl might have survived,” the witness said.

The deceased girl’s father, Akmal Sulaimonov, asked law enforcement agencies to punish the man harshly.

‘They killed my little angel. His parents did not even come to offer their condolences. They say that the guy is still free on his own recognizance… It turns out that he also told someone that his car was ‘not a hearse’. This is very strange, what right does he have?.. She was 19 years old, we celebrated her birthday at the end of August… I have not yet fully realized that she has left us. Her younger brother had a nervous breakdown, he cannot speak. Her little sister has not eaten anything for two or three days, we force her to eat. I have a mother, three more children, and a wife at home. I calm them down every night before they go to bed... He is guilty, which means he should be punished... He also smoked instead of helping the person," the man said.

According to another eyewitness, after the girl was hit by a car, she talked about her mother and father, and then died.

The Tashkent city police department launched a criminal case under Violation of traffic safety rules or operation of vehicles, said the press secretary of the Department, Kakhramon Khudoyberganov.

One of the relatives of the deceased said that the driver was still at large and is interfering with the "fair conduct of investigative actions." According to him, Article 266 of the Criminal Code (punishable by imprisonment for up to 7 years with deprivation of a certain right) needs to be tightened.

"A person is usually handed four years of imprisonment under this article, and is released after a year. Perhaps the article should be revised. In other articles, the instrument of the crime is confiscated and sent to compensate for the damage. Perhaps it is also worth confiscating the car in such crimes and sending it to compensate the family or hospitals. Perhaps it is worth considering this issue in the Oliy Majlis,” he said.

On September 19, in the Sergeli district of Tashkent, a BYD crossover, driving at an excess of speed, hit a 9-year-old schoolgirl who was crossing the street after getting off the bus. The child died on the way to the hospital.

It was reported earlier that in the first five months of this year in Uzbekistan, 65 schoolchildren were killed and 294 were injured in traffic accidents.
