Bridge has collapsed in the Pskent district of the Tashkent province, the press service of the provincial governor’s office said. According to the Committee for Automobile Roads, the collapse occurred on a reinforced concrete bridge on the 14th kilometer of the 4R19 highway.
At about 20:00 on October 2, a driver, 37, driving a Howo truck, crossed the bridge. The truck was moving along the bridge with an excess of the permissible load, which led to the destruction of reinforced concrete structures and supports on the right side of the bridge. The truck, along with the bridge, fell into the Tashkent Canal.
According to the technical passport, the weight of the Howo truck without cargo is 26.8 tons, and the total weight is 40 tons. The check of the waybill of the truck found that it was transporting 80 tons of sand. Taking into account the weight of the car itself and the cargo, the total weight was 106.8 tons.
Road signs prohibiting the movement of heavy goods vehicles and indicating a permissible load of up to 8 tons were installed in front of the bridge. However, the driver ignored these restrictions, which caused the incident, the committee reports.
There were no people on the bridge at the time of the incident. The driver was not injured.
The relevant authorities have launched an investigation.
