On October 9, Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov hosted the new Ambassador of Afghanistan in Tashkent, Abdul Ghafar Tirawi, the press service of the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
"The parties emphasized the need for comprehensive development of relations between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan, the tapping of existing potential, the development of new projects that serve the interests of the peoples of the two countries," the statement said.
Abdul Ghafar Tirawi, who is an ethnic Uzbek, voiced gratitude on behalf of Afghanistan for the ongoing assistance provided by Uzbekistan.
"Our countries are united by a common history and interests in prosperity, which serve as an incentive for the development of cooperation in all areas. During today's meeting, we discussed current topics on the bilateral, regional and global agenda," Bakhtiyor Saidov said on his Telegram channel.
The Afghan authorities announced the appointment of Abdul Ghafar Tirawi as ambassador to Uzbekistan at the end of August.
