Truck drivers driving in the leftmost lane of the road (except for permitted cases, such as left turns or U-turns) can now be fined for half of the Basic settlement unit (BCU=375 thousand soums), that is 187.5 thousand soums. The relevant amendment to this effect was made to the Administrative Liability Code on October 28 with immediate effect.
A repeated violation within a year after the first fine shall be punishable by a fine of 1 BCU (375 thousand soums), the third violation - with 3 BCU (1.125 million soums), the fourth and subsequent violations within a year - 4 BCU (1.5 million soums) or deprivation of the right to drive a vehicle for a period of 6 months.
According to the Traffic Regulations, as of May 1, 2022, included a requirement for trucks to drive "in all cases only on the right side of the roadway" (except for exceptions provided for by the Traffic Regulations). Until now, drivers had not been punished for this violation, since fines were not spelled out in the Administrative Code.
In September, during the discussion of the amendments in the Senate, it was reported that, 303 road accidents involving trucks occurred in the first seven months in Uzbekistan, in which 108 people died and 227 were injured.
