Bakhodir Kurbanov has been appointed Chairman of the State Security Service to replace Abdusalom Azizov. Since February 11, 2019, Bakhodir Kurbanov had served as the Minister of Defense. He was reappointed to this position on Thursday after the approval of the deputies of the new convocation and the decree of the president.
From 1987 to 1989, he performed his compulsory military service. In 1990, he entered the Higher Investigation School of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and in 1992, the Higher School of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
In 2002-2005, he worked as the head of the Jizzakh district police department. In 2005, he transferred to the position of the head of the Gallyaral district police department of Jizzakh province. In 2008, he assumed the role of the first deputy Chief of the Main department of the Patrol and Post Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. In the same year, he was appointed Chief of the Namangan province police department.
From December 24, 2013 to December 27, 2015, he served as Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs. In 2015, he was appointed Chief of the Tashkent city police department. On January 14, 2017, he received the rank of Major General.
In 2018-2019, he held the position of Commander of the Tashkent Military District. In January 2021, he was awarded the rank of Lieutenant General.
According to the State Security Service law, the Chairman of the SSS is directly subordinate to the President in carrying out his activities. The candidate for the position of Chairman of the SSS shall be appointed to the position by the President after consultations with the Senate.
