The Cabinet of Ministers has handed over to the Legislative Chamber a draft amendment to increase the speed limit margin from 5 to 10 km/h.

The amendment was developed based on last year's order from Deputy PM Achilbay Ramatov, which became known in early March. The order justifies the need to increase the speed margin by certain "errors" in technical equipment (radars) and vehicle speedometers.

Less than two years have passed since the speed limit margin in cities in Uzbekistan was reduced from 70 to 60 km/h (in populated areas it was kept at 70 km/h). Meanwhile, the speed near schools and kindergartens "if there are appropriate signs" was limited to 30 km/h, and in residential areas - 20 km/h.

In 2022-2023, of the 9.11 million traffic violations recorded by recording devices, the overwhelming majority - about 5.915 million, or 65.96%, were related to exceeding the established speed.

The Safe City Center will monitor the installation and operation of photo and video recording systems for traffic violations by business entities. A single standard for such systems must be developed by May 1.

Thus, drivers in cities will be allowed to speed up to 70 km/h without risking a fine (60+10), and not up to 65 km/h (60+5).
