Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan agreed to extend the restrictions on crossing the border through the Daut-ata and Tazhen checkpoints for another four months, until September 1, the Kazinform said today.

The traffic through these checkpoints was suspended on February 1 for three months due to reconstruction. The restrictions shall apply to individuals, cars, buses and trucks with a permitted weight of no more than 3.5 tons.

According to the Kazakh authorities, a major reconstruction efforts are currently-underway at the site: installation of metal structures, laying of utility networks, major repairs of buildings.

In addition, from May to August, the KazAvtoZhol company will lay a new road coating on the neutral strip between the Daut-ata and Tazhen checkpoints. It was reported that similar work is planned on the Uzbek part.
