The president Shavkat Mirziyoyev congratulated the press and media workers on their professional holiday marked on June 27.
He underscored the great importance, role and influence of the media in today's extremely complex and unstable world in the backdrop of rapidly changing global socio-political processes.
The duties of journalists to provide objective and reliable information and resolutely defend national interests, I think, can rightfully be compared with the valor of the defenders of the Motherland, he added.
He underscored their worthy contribution to the historical transformations in the country and the priority importance given in the country to the consistent development of the media as an important condition and principle for democratic transition.
A new generation of dedicated, patriotic and professional journalists are being raised in recent years, the president continued.
At the same time, he pointed out, much remains to be done to solve such urgent problems as subjectivity and bias in the media, with an aim to improve professional knowledge and skills, mastering modern methods of disseminating information, forming an information, discussion and dialogue culture among the public, combating various negative phenomena and corruption in society.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized that priority areas of the national policies in the New Uzbekistan that will remain a worthy assessment of the difficult role of media workers, support media, help improve their material and resource base and to build capacity.
On the eve, on the occasion of the holiday, the president awarded orders, medals and honorary titles to a group of media workers.
