9,364 road accidents occurred in Uzbekistan in 2024, in which almost 9,000 people were injured and 2,203 people died, stated Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the government meeting on road safety and reducing congestion.
The highest count of fatalities was in Samarkand, Tashkent and Fergana provinces. Shavkat Mirziyoyev stressed that there were many problems in the sector. In the first six months of this year, the number of accidents remains high in 20 provinces.
A significant drop in accidents with serious consequence was recorded in a number of districts and cities. Not a single case of death was recorded in Muynak, Nukus, Takhtakupyr, Kanlykul, Yangiabad, Turakurgan, Akkurgan, Saykhunabad, Bulakbashi, Ulugnor, Bandikhan districts, as well as in the cities of Akhangaran, Shirin, Nurafshan and Khanabad.
However, the situation remains grave in Kyzyltepa, Uychi, Pakhtachi, Chust, Taylak, Urgut, Shavat, Pastdargom, Yakkabag, Kushkupyr, Khanka, Denau, Peshku, Beruniy, Almazar and Bektemir districts.
The President pointed out to those responsible for the sector that the fatality rate in road accidents per 100 thousand people, although the lowest among the CIS countries, is not a reason for complacency.
Unfortunately, one person dies in every fourth road accident. On average, 6 people per day. This should seriously worry everyone, the head of state emphasized.
