Two men who demanded $900,000 from a businessman have been detained in Tashkent, the State Security Service (SSS) said Tuesday.
The complaint was received by the SSS' hotline. The whistleblower said that he had been promised that the category of a 1-hectare land plot owned by a firm in Sergeli district would be changed to allow the construction of a multi-story building. They were supposedly going to do this through their high-ranking acquaintances in the mayor’s office.
The men were detained redhandedly while they were receiving $220,000 upfront during an operation event in Mirabad district.
A criminal case has been opened against the detainees under Fraud on an especially large scale charge and Giving a bribe on an especially large scale charge through the Types of accomplices to a crime - organizers, instigators or accomplices vharge of the Criminal Code. They are in custody.
