Shavkat Mirziyoyev today landed in Namangan province to get familiar with the province’s development progress, the presidential press service said.

The pace of transformation here is already reportedly noticeable at the airport, where new modern terminals are being erected through of $140 million in investment. The project was presented during Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s travel to the province last year, with the project proceeding at a high pace.

The previous airport could no longer cope with the growing passenger flow. The new three-story terminal will increase passenger traffic by 2.5 times. It will have modern border control and visa processing zones, a business lounge, retail and public spaces, a medical center and duty free shops.

A large cargo terminal is being erected in parallel, with daily design capacity of up to 50 tons of cargo and export to 90 countries. Most importantly, this will allow the creation of a single cargo system in the Fergana Valley, which will significantly increase the export and transit potential of the province.

This year alone, it is planned to attract 1.5 million foreign and more than 2 million domestic tourists to the Namangan province, and also to increase the volume of service exports up to $210 million. Meanwhile, the exports of neighboring Andijan and Fergana provinces are laos growing.

To increase the airport's capabilities, the airport's special equipment fleet is also being updated, which will allow it to receive and service aircraft of different types. Furthermore, the project provides for the construction of a restaurant and canteen area, a gas filling station and other infrastructure facilities. The new terminals are scheduled to be commissioned next year.

The President pointed to the need for comprehensive development of the territory around the airport. Here, as is customary in the advanced countries of the world, modern hotels, shopping and entertainment centers, as well as a wide range of related services should appear. He gave directives to focus on the creation of convenient parking and service facilities for comfortable stays.
