The very goal of our higher education related reforms is to turn Uzbekistan into a provinceal hub of education and science, stated the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev at a meeting with teachers and mentors in the Bostanlyk district of the Tashkent province on Monday, his spokesman Sherzod Asadov said.
According to him, now 4 Uzbek universities are among the top 1000 universities in the world. All efforts are being made, reportedly, to bring this number to 10.
The head of state announced the launch of joint educational programs with foreign universities from the top 500 in IT, AI, agricultural technology, medicine and green energy.
Furthermore, there are plans to open branches of universities in the top 100 of the world rankings in Uzbekistan, he added.
To promote these goals, Uzbekistan will host the Central Asia International Education Forum next year. It will be attended by delegates of more than 10 international organizations, 500 rectors of renowned universities and over 1000 international experts.
He also vowed to increase the number of foreign students fivefold and raise the volume of educational services exports to $200 million.
the Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers, the National University of Uzbekistan, and the Tashkent State Technical University were ranked in the top 1000 QS World University Rankings 2026 this year; while four more universities took places slightly below the thousandth mark.
In the Graduate Achievements indicator, the top 700 includes the above-mentioned universities , as well as the Tashkent State University of Economics.
This year, it was planned to begin selecting participants for the National Program for Preparing Youth for Admission to American Ivy League Universities.
