In Uzbekistan, 5,895 road traffic accidents were officially recorded in January-September, the Defense and Security Committee chairman Kutbiddin Burkhanov announced at a plenary session of the Senate on Saturday.

According to the senator, this is by 232, or 3.8%, less than in the same period last year (6,127).

The number of injured also declined by 3.5% - from 4,759 to 4,592. The number of deaths in accidents also decreased by 4.8% - from 1,368 to 1,303 (-65).

While, the number of traffic accidents involving pedestrians dropped by 5.8% - from 2,855 to 2,689 (45.6% of the total number).

Burkhanov noted that the decrease was due to improved culture of compliance with traffic rules among drivers and pedestrians, and in the system of training and retraining of drivers, as well as new legal framework aimed at complete digitalization of traffic management.

It should be noted that in 2024, there were 9,364 traffic accidents, in which nearly 9,000 people were injured, and 2,203 people were killed.
