The Chirchik Interdistrict Economic Court suspended the factory operations at Maxam-Chirchiq chemical plant in Tashkent province Wednesday until identified deficiencies are rectified, the press service of the Supreme Court said.
The lawsuit was filed by the Committee of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change.
Reportedly, the check identified 11 violations, including non-compliance with regulations for dust and gas cleaning equipment, pollutant emissions exceeding established limits, failure to store chemicals within designated areas, excessive chemical discharges into water bodies, and failure to make full and timely compensation payments.
Maxam-Chirchiq, an Uzbek-Spanish joint venture, is one of the largest chemical plants in Uzbekistan.
Last week, the Ecology Committee demanded that industrial enterprises halve their emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere by December 1.
