An explosion occurred at a restaurant in a market in the Gulistan city of Syrdarya province, followed by a fire. On Tuesday, the provincial Department of Health reported that the explosion occurred on Tuesday at 10:49 a.m. in Tarakkiyot neigborhood.
According to social media reports, three people were in the kitchen at the time of the explosion, after which the room erupted in flames.
The injured were taken to a branch of the Republican Scientific Center for Emergency Medical Care. At the time of the initial reports, no casualties were reported.
The fire was extinguished by crews of the Syrdarya Province Emergency Situations Department.
A criminal case has been opened under Violation of labor safety regulations resulting in death or other serious consequences of the Criminal Code. One person has been taken into custody, with investigation underway. Today at 12:51 PM, the Ministry of Health reported that the situation was under control.
The emergency call center received information about the incident at 11:13 AM the previous day. A team arrived at the scene at 11:25 AM, providing first aid to the victims.
According to the Ministry of Health:
- 29 people sustained burns and injuries of varying degrees;
- 26 were hospitalized;
- 3 received outpatient care;
- 3 patients with extremely severe injuries died.
Additional specialists arrived at the medical facility: burn specialists (a surgeon who specializes in treating severe burns), resuscitation specialists, neurosurgeons, surgeons, traumatologists, and microsurgeons. They continue to provide assistance.
"Now, the condition of one hospitalized patient is extremely serious and is on a ventilator. Five patients in intensive care are in stable but serious condition, breathing on their own and conscious. Two patients were transferred to a branch of the Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Center for Mother and Child Care in the Syrdarya Province due to pregnancy. Their condition is assessed as satisfactory," the Ministry of Health reported.
The condition of the remaining 15 hospitalized patients is also satisfactory and they are receiving treatment in the relevant departments, the statement concluded.
