24-year-old man lost his hand and sustained facial burns as a result of a pyrotechnic device detonating unexpectedly In Tashkent, the Tashkent Police Department said.
The incident occurred in an apartment in Yangihayot district. The victim's mother reported hearing an explosion in the room, after which her son came out with burn marks on his face and bleeding from his hand. He reported holding the pyrotechnic device.
Traumatologist Anvar Ismoilov of the Republican Scientific Center for Emergency Medical Care reported that the victim had been admitted in a severe shock. After examination, he was sent for emergency surgery.
The man sustained an open fracture of his left wrist, ruptured blood vessels and nerves, and had a laceration of his left palm. His right hand and face sustained burns. Doctors had to remove his left palm.
The doctor explained that December and January are the months when the number of such incidents were on the rise. In many cases, the consequences are severe and irreversible – in addition to burns, they include broken bones, injuries to the hands, face, and eyes.
The Police Department urged parents to prevent children from using fireworks.
Recently, the Customs Committee reported that over 7.35 million fireworks had been seized in 136 cases since the beginning of the year. Despite the ban on the import and sale of such items, the sounds of exploding fireworks and firecrackers can be seen and heard everywhere every New Year's.
