President Shavkat Mirziyoyev spoke to the Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov over the telephone yesterday, the presidential press service said.

The two leaders reportedly discussed the ways to further strengthen the Uzbek-Kyrgyz friendship, good-neighborliness, and comprehensive strategic partnership ties.

They commended the stable growth in two-way trade between the two countries, and the progress of joint infrastructure projects, including the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway and the Kambarata-1 Hydroelectric Power Station projects.

The two presidents also exchanged views on current regional issues and discussed the schedule of upcoming bilateral and multilateral events.

Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov yesterday in a shock move fired national security chief Kamchybek Tashiyev, the tough-talking politician widely regarded as his “co-ruler”. Analysts have long speculated that Tashiyev has his eyes on claiming the presidency for himself.
