Uzbekistan and the United States signed an agreement for an investment platform during President Shavkat Mirziyoyev's working visit to Washington on Wednesday. The goal of the investment platform will be systemic promotion of bilateral projects, the Uzbek presidency website reported.

The signing followed talks between Shavkat Mirziyoyev and, President and Chairman of the U.S. Eximbank John Jovanovic and the CEO of the U.S. Development Finance Corporation (DFC) Ben Black.

The parties discussed expanding Eximbank's financing for major industrial and infrastructure projects, as well as support for the supply of high-tech equipment. Participation in major national and regional projects, financial market development, and energy sector development were also discussed with DFC leadership.

Bilateral Accords

Shavkat Mirziyoyev also attended the signing ceremony of a number of bilateral accords and showcase of joint projects.

"Today, the reliability of partners, predictability of rules and long-term horizons of cooperation are coming to the fore. It is in this logic that we are building cooperation with the United States of America," Mirziyoyev stressed.

He noted that the economic agenda was one of the key pillars of the strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and the United States.

Critical raw materials, petrochemicals, energy, agriculture and poultry farming projects are among the priority areas of joint work he added, while noting the increasing role of the Corporation for International Financial Development of the USA and Eximbank of the USA as system partners in supporting transactions.

He emphasized the importance of actively tapping the potential of the joint Business and investment Council.

As part of the deepening of cooperation between Uzbek provinces and the States, he gave directives to organize visits of the province governors to the partner states of the United States.

Following the meeting, in the presence of the president, bilateral documents for projects to set up a Gulf gas stations network, implementing sprinkler irrigation technologies, produce and supply critical minerals, poultry cluster, develop the agro-industrial complex and the financial market, as well as improve the investment climate.

The event was attended by representatives of the U.S. government and financial institutions, including Trade Representative Jamison Greer, Special Presidential Envoy Paolo Zampolli, President and Chairman of the Export-Import Bank John Yovanovic, Chairman of the American-Uzbek Chamber of Commerce Carolyn Lamm, as well as the heads of Traxys, Valmont Industries, Gulf Oil, Aviagen Broiler Breeding Group., John Deere, BlackRock Financial Markets Advisory, Oppenheimer and others.

The meeting was also attended by the heads of Uzbek provinces via teleconference.

Other Meetings

In Washington, the President of Uzbekistan also held meetings with US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick and US Trade Representative Jamison Greer.

Strengthening the strategic partnership, advancing cooperation projects in priority areas, completing Uzbekistan's accession to the WTO, stepping up cooperation under the Trade and Investment Framework Agreement between the countries of Central Asia and the United States (TIFA), and other issues were discussed.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev invited the American side to participate in the Tashkent International Investment Forum.

Bilateral trade between Uzbekistan and the United States has exceeded $1 billion over the past two years. However, last year it was lower than the 2024 target—$1.004 billion versus nearly $1.025 billion. In 2023, the figure was $765.1 million. The United States is Uzbekistan's 13th trade partner.
