The president Shavkat Mirziyoyev today reviewed a presentation on the progress of four toll highway projects. In particular, Shavkat Mirziyoyev inspected the progress of the 282-km Tashkent to Samarkand toll highway project.

Soil stabilization work is planned on a140 km section. The project also includes erecting of:

  • 12 interchanges,
  • 91 bridges,
  • 16 overpasses.

The highway will be reportedly classified as Category Ia, which meets the highest technical and safety standards for highways.

The highway will have six lanes with a concrete pavement, each 3.75 meters wide with 150 km/h design speed.

Construction is scheduled for completion within five years.

A 171-kilometer alternative highway along the Tashkent-Angren-Kamchik Pass route project was also presented.

The project stipulates building 33 kilometers of tunnels and a number of major engineering structures.

The president was briefed on funding sources being explored and negotiations to attract foreign investors.

He noted that when designing highways, special attention must be paid to:

  • deploying implementation of modern transport engineering solutions,
  • intelligent control and monitoring systems,
  • improving highway safety.

Four Toll Highways

The presentation also included information on the Tashkent to Charvak and Urgench to Khiva highway projects.

Chairman of the Committee on Highways, Jamshid Tursunov, announced that the country plans to build four toll highways through a public-private partnership.

"Overall, the four toll highways through a public-private partnership is planned for this year. We are talking about long-discussed projects: the Tashkent-Samarkand, Tashkent-Andijan, Tashkent-Charvak, and Urgench-Khiva highways," he said.

According to him, tender procedures for the Tashkent-Samarkand and Tashkent-Andijan highways have already been completed, and project implementation, in collaboration with contractors, is due to begin soon. Government agencies have not yet announced the winner of the tender.

The tender for the Tashkent-Charvak highway project has also been approved, and work is scheduled to begin this year.

"Furthermore, construction has already begun on the Urgench-Khiva highway. This highway will be the first ever toll highway in the country and will be commissioned this year," noted Jamshid Tursunov.

According to him, construction on the remaining three toll highways is also planned to begin in 2026.
