Chief tax inspector of the Fergana district of the Fergana province has been arrested on suspicion of fraud and complicity in bribery, the State Security Service reported.

Reportedly, the inspector, using links with high-ranking officials, promised a businessman from Namangan province assistance to get 10 hectares of land from the reserve of Fergana district mayor’s office and designated for agricultural use.

He demanded $95,000 for a land plot for building a tourist attraction, and an additional $6,000 for changing the land plot's category. The total amount was $101,000.

During an operation conducted by SSS officers jointly with the police in Yanginamangan district, the suspect was caught red-handed accepting the previously agreed-upon $20,000.

The Namangan Province Prosecutor's Office opened a criminal case under Fraud on a significant scale charge and the Complicity in repeated bribery by a dangerous repeat offender or a person who has previously received a bribe or acted as an intermediary in bribery charge of the Criminal Code.
