8-year-old boy died in Angren, Tashkent province, after being attacked by a stray dog last week, the Milliy TV channel reported in a story.
It happened during heavy rain in an area in Istiklol neighborhood, as the boy was walking home from school. His family lives in a rented apartment there.
The boy's teacher told Zamon TV that Imronbek, as he was called, was usually picked up from school by his brother. The family used to live near the school, but then they moved, and now the commute to and from home takes some time.
That day, his brother picked him up, the teacher reported. However, according to residents of the neighborhood, Imronbek may have wandered off and taken a shorter route than his usual one.
Local residents told Zamon that they had long been complaining about stray dogs, but authorities have failed to address it.
The Tashkent province governor’s office said it had launched a probe into the tragedy. The city has stepped up efforts to monitor stray animals, capture them, and store them in designated areas, the statement said.
The administration noted that the dog suspected of attacking the boy had been captured.
