Reciprocal passenger flights from Uzbekistan to Saudi Arabia and the UAE have been permitted as of March 10, the Ministry of Transport said. The ministry added it had sent a letter to national and foreign airlines on Tuesday.
On March 2, a notice was posted in the aeronautical information system (NOTAM) prohibiting flights from Uzbekistan to Saudi Arabia until March 18. According to the Ministry of Transport, restrictions on passenger types and nationalities have now been lifted.
When operating flights to Saudi Arabia, airlines and airports have been instructed to take into account that the Umrah season is drawing to a close, and in line with Saudi Arabian law all pilgrims must leave the country before the start of the 2026 Hajj season.
Therefore, Uzbekistan Airports will verify that all passengers flying to Saudi Arabia hold return tickets. Lists of passengers without return tickets must be compiled daily by airlines and tour operators and sent to the Uzaviatsia agency headquarters.
Carriers have also been reminded that transportation of Umrah pilgrims must comply with Cabinet of Ministers October 12, 2024 Resolution according to which carrying such passengers is permitted only through tour operators licensed by the Committee for Religious Affairs.
Travel firm contracts for transporting pilgrims must stipulate that each passenger must be issued a separate round-trip ticket, regardless of the airline operating the flights.
Furthermore, passengers must be reminded via the notification system during flights that tour operators and travel agents are obligated to provide them with round-trip tickets, hotel vouchers, transfers, meals, and copies of insurance policies.
Passengers are also advised to keep in touch with their travel operators and arrive at the airport in advance of the time indicated on return flight ticket.
The Ministry of Transport said it would continuously monitor the situation in the region and provide further guidance in coordination with the government if necessary.
