Child died in a traffic accident in Uzun district of Surkhandarya province, the provincial traffic police said. Reportedly, on March 4, in the Surkhon neighborhood, a GM Nexia 2 driven by a 28-year-old driver struck a six-year-old girl who was crossing the road. The child died from her injuries.
New pedestrian crossing has been constructed at the 104th kilometer of the D169 national highway, road markings have been applied, and signs have been installed. "A raised pedestrian crossing has also been installed near School No. 27 at 106th kilometer of the same road to ensure student safety," the Traffic police added.
Last year, 9,226 road accidents occurred in Uzbekistan, resulting in 2,188 deaths and 8,901 injuries, marking a less than 1% decrease to the previous year.
According to the Traffic police, the mortality rate per 100,000 people decreased from 6.9 to 5.7, or approximately 17.4%, and per 10,000 vehicles, from 6.3 to 4, or 36.5%.
