On the evening of Sunday, May 3rd, a heavy downpour left several streets in Tashkent flooded, with water inundating residential courtyards and a number of public facilities. Photos and videos of the aftermath quickly spread across social media.

Among the footage circulating online, rainwater could be seen pouring into the building of the Scientific and Practical Medical Center for Pediatric Oncology, Hematology, and Immunology — a particularly alarming sight given the vulnerability of the patients housed there.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES) reported that the сршуа of the Chilanzar District Emergency Department arrived on the scene, where rescue workers and center staff worked together to manage the aftermath of the storm.

Once again, water flooded into the Chorsu metro station — an incident that has happened before. The Tashkent Metro authorities attributed the flooding to the failure to clean irrigation and drainage systems in a timely manner, which caused them to become overwhelmed.

"Metro infrastructure undergoes regular technical inspections. Official requests have previously been submitted on multiple occasions to the responsible organizations and the city administration regarding emergency prevention measures," the metro's statement read.

The MES noted that the bulk of the water drained from the station naturally through the irrigation and drainage system. Units from the Tashkent Main Emergency Management Department were also deployed to prevent further water accumulation.

The metro operator later confirmed that water ingress at the station had been fully resolved and that trains were running on their normal schedule.
