During his visit to the city of Bekabad today, the president Shavkat Mirziyoyev attended the commissioning ceremony of the newly constructed Casting and Rolling Complex at the Uzbekistan Metallurgical Plant. Shavkat Mirziyoyev pressed a symbolic button to officially launch the complex's operations.
According to the president's press service, the head of state congratulated the plant's workforce, labor veterans, and foreign partners on this milestone event. The new Casting and Rolling Complex ushers in a new era for the plant by integrating energy-efficient technologies and digital solutions to boost labor productivity and product quality.
While the facility previously supplied rolled metal primarily for the construction sector, it is now manufacturing 80 types of new products tailored for rapidly expanding industries, including automotive and machinery manufacturing, electrical engineering, defense, and energy.
Over the next five years, Uzbekistan plans to attract $180 billion in foreign investment, implement $27 billion worth of social and production infrastructure projects, and construct apartment complexes containing 800,000 housing units. Reaching these targets will increase the demand for metal products by 1.5 times compared to current levels. In this regard, the president highlighted the special role of the Uzbekistan Metallurgical Plant, which boasts a close-knit and dedicated workforce of over 5,500 employees.
“This complex will go down in history as our country's very first production facility for hot-rolled steel sheets,” the report noted.
Once fully operational, the facility will produce one million tons of hot-rolled steel sheets annually, valued at 8 trillion soums. This output will entirely fulfill the raw sheet metal demands of both the Tashkent and Samarkand metallurgical plants. Furthermore, the project will create 1,200 high-paying jobs.
The president expressed his gratitude to the builders, engineers, technologists, operators, workers, labor veterans, and foreign partners who participated in constructing the complex.
The president arrived in Bekabad aboard a newly commissioned electric commuter train. Shavkat Mirziyoyev last visited Bekabad in August 2022, when he inspected the ongoing expansion of the metallurgical sector's production capacities and held meetings with industry professionals and local business owners.
