In Romitan district of Bukhara province, a bus driver was caught transporting kindergarten children while intoxicated, the provincial Road Safety Department reported.
The incident occurred on April 28, when the driver of an Isuzu bus ignored a signal from traffic police to pull over. Officers eventually managed to stop the vehicle, discovering 40 children and their teachers inside. Tests confirmed the driver was under the influence of alcohol.
The court found him guilty on three counts under the Administrative Responsibility Code: driving under the influence (Article 131, Part 1), Failing to comply with the lawful demands of a police officer (Article 194, Part 1), and Violating passenger transportation regulations (Article 128-8, Part 1).
“Looking back on my actions, I deeply regret these offenses,” the driver stated. “I fully recognize how vital traffic laws are for the safety of our community. I give my word that this will never happen again.”
Reflecting on the near-miss, the Department issued a stark reminder to the public: “Every parent should ask themselves: when you send your children off every day—children you protect like the apple of your eye—whose hands are you placing their lives in? What becomes of their future, their lives, and their dreams? The indifference of a single driver, or one person's decision to drink and drive, can cut a life short in an instant. The conclusion is yours to make.”
