State Security Service and customs officials at Tashkent International Airport successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle nearly one kilogram of the Alpha-PVP synthetic drug into the country during a coordinated sting operation.

Authorities intercepted two arriving passengers—a 38-year-old resident of the Fergana province and a 20-year-old citizen of the Russian Federation—as they passed through customs control.

Inspection of their hand luggage and baggage found a total of 986 grams of the synthetic drug disguised inside two plastic sports nutrition containers. One container held 500 grams of the substance, while the other contained 486 grams.

Following the initial seizure, the operation was extended to track down the intended recipient. Law enforcement set up surveillance and caught the mastermind—a 30-year-old Tashkent resident—red-handed as he attempted to retrieve the narcotics from a pre-arranged dead drop location in the Sergeli district.

Criminal proceedings have been initiated against the individuals involved, with investigations currently ongoing.
