The President of Albania, Bajram Begaj, accompanied by his wife, is currently on an official visit to Uzbekistan. He was hosted by the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, at the Kuksaroy Residence today. The talks were held with the participation of official delegations, the presidential press service reported.
The two leaders reviewed prospects for strengthening cooperation between their nations.
At the start of the negotiations, Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized that this first-ever summit in the history of their bilateral relations is a milestone event that will elevate Uzbek-Albanian ties to a qualitatively new level.
Both sides noted the revitalization of political dialogue and contacts at various levels, highlighting their mutual support within the UN and other international bodies.
Priority focus in bilateral relations is being placed on boosting trade volume and developing a comprehensive cooperation program. This program will span agribusiness, green energy, geology, information technologies, digitalization, and tourism.
Furthermore, the parties will explore the potential of using Albania's Port of Durrës as a logistics hub to grant Uzbek products access to South European and Mediterranean markets.
The leaders emphasized the importance of expanding the legal framework for trade, economic, and investment cooperation.
To advance this joint economic agenda, an agreement was reached to establish an intergovernmental commission, which will hold its inaugural meeting later this year in Tashkent.
In the cultural and humanitarian sphere, both sides advocated for organizing reciprocal cultural days, film festivals, exhibitions, and concert tours.
The leaders also exchanged views on pressing issues on the regional and international agenda.
