At the Olympic Village in Tashkent, young people and older adults spent the day playing tennis, forging new friendships, and strengthening bonds across generations as part of the "Generations United" tennis festival — a social initiative launched by the Tennis Federation of Uzbekistan (TFU) and the Saudi company ACWA Power, the largest renewable energy investor in Uzbekistan.

The Generations United project was incorporated into a special tennis tournament organized by the Tennis Federation of Uzbekistan as part of the sports program of the Tashkent International Investment Forum (TIIF). The main tournament brought together participants from Uzbekistan and international delegates attending the forum, who competed against one another on the court. The event was held with the support of the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Sport of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan.

Launched in 2025, the Generations United project was created to address the growing problem of loneliness and social isolation among older adults, while also fostering communication and mutual understanding between people of different age groups. Through sport, mentorship, and shared activities, the project encourages dialogue, knowledge exchange, and greater understanding between younger and older generations, demonstrating that tennis can serve as a powerful tool for social cohesion and community well-being.

The TIIF event marked Generations United's first activation of 2026 and its second since the project's launch. By bringing together people from different generations who rarely have the opportunity to interact in everyday life, the initiative helps strengthen social ties and creates the conditions for an enriching exchange of experiences, knowledge, and perspectives between young and old.

The program included an intergenerational tennis masterclass and the Generations United Tiebreak Slam — a fast-paced competitive format designed to foster teamwork, communication, and connection across generational lines. Participants had the chance to engage both on and off the court, reaffirming that sport has the power to bring people together, build bridges of understanding, and lay the groundwork for lasting, positive change in society.

"The future is built through collaboration between generations. Seasoned professionals bring wisdom, expertise, and leadership, while the younger generation contributes innovation, energy, and fresh approaches to problem-solving. Generations United is a platform where these strengths can complement one another, and we are proud to present this initiative at the Tashkent International Investment Forum — a place where ideas about the future of business, investment, and society naturally converge," said John Zaidi, Head of ACWA Power in Uzbekistan.

The Generations United tennis festival is part of ACWA Power's broader corporate social responsibility (CSR) program, which focuses on developing human capital, supporting local communities, and creating a lasting positive impact on society. The project reflects the company's conviction that sustainable development is defined not only by investment and infrastructure, but also by trust between people, mutual support, and the opportunity to learn from one another's knowledge and experience.

"Developing tennis is about more than sport. It is a tool for bringing people together, building human capital, and forging lasting social bonds. The Generations United project shows how sport can strengthen mutual understanding between generations, promote the values of a healthy lifestyle, and create a space for open dialogue. Hosting the tournament within the framework of the Tashkent International Investment Forum further amplifies its significance, bringing together international investors, business representatives, and community leaders on a single platform. This format fosters not only sporting and social development, but also the formation of new professional and business connections," said Aziz Hamidov, Deputy Chairman of the Tennis Federation of Uzbekistan.

Going forward, ACWA Power and the Tennis Federation of Uzbekistan plan to continue developing the Generations United tennis festival through new initiatives aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles, strengthening intergenerational understanding, and expanding opportunities for mentorship and civic engagement through sport. The partners intend to keep using tennis as a vehicle for positive social change, while at the same time supporting the long-term development of the sport in Uzbekistan.
