Tashkent has broken ground on a new manufacturing plant specializing in humanoid robots and their components, according to the Ministry of Investments, Industry, and Trade.
The foundation stone-laying ceremony took place on June 15 at the "Yangi Avlod" (New Generation) Industrial Zone during the Tashkent International Investment Forum. The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjaev, Deputy Minister of Investments, Industry, and Trade Ilzat Kasimov, South Korean Ambassador to Uzbekistan Won Do-yeon, and Robotis CEO Kim Byung-soo.
The new enterprise is expected to establish high-tech manufacturing, bring in international expertise, and train skilled local specialists. The project is being hailed as a major milestone in developing Uzbekistan's robotics sector.
Founded in 1999, South Korea’s Robotis is a global leader in autonomous robotics. With assets totaling $2.5 billion, the corporation operates offices in the US, Japan, and China. Its technologies are widely used by global tech and automotive giants including Amazon, Microsoft, Apple, NASA, Google, Samsung, and BMW.
The project is backed by nearly $70 million in investment and will feature a modern, 10-hectare manufacturing complex. It is projected to create more than 2,000 new jobs.
