The Committee of the Legislative Chamber on Democratic Institutions, Non-Governmental Organizations and Citizens' Self-Government Bodies, together with the Senate, the Cabinet of Ministers and the National Center for Human Rights, held a round table on the topic “Topical issues of further enhancing women’s role and status in public administration, the Legislative Chamber said in a statement.

According to the press service of the Legislative Chamber, the experts considered the setting up of an agency for women's affairs, and proposed to introduce a system of quotas for the appointment of educated and qualified women to leadership positions in government and public institutions.

“However, one of the main problems women face is difficulties in finding a job. There are about one million unemployed women in Uzbekistan, 2–2.5 million do not have a permanent job or are employed in seasonal agriculture jobs. It is almost impossible for single mothers to get housing,” the statement added.

The participants also discussed the need to create an integrated system that deals with the problems of women, providing them with comprehensive assistance and support.
