The Uzbek authorities managed to better mitigate the consequences of the COVID pandemic than most other developing countries, stated Suma Chakrabarti, adviser to the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on economic development, good governance and international cooperation.
“2020 was a difficult year for every country. Uzbekistan took very powerful and targeted measures at the very beginning of the pandemic. We can say that the disease was more or less moderate in Uzbekistan, with the economy managing to achieve albeit modest, but still growth compared to many other developing economies. They did worse,” Chakrabarti said, speaking Thursday at a session of the Uzbek-British Trade and Industry Council.
According to him, forecasts for 2021-2022 for Uzbekistan indicate that there will be "very serious" economic growth - about 4%. According to Chakrabarti, this figure indicates the success of the government during the pandemic.
“The government is now liberal about international trade and foreign investment. The perception of many issues has changed, all policies are being revised. Of course, external relations are improving, partnership ties with many countries are advancing,” he underscored.
