The State Tourism Development Committee and the Ministry of Sports will be merged. The new department will be headed by Aziz Abdukhakimov.
On February 10, after listening to the report of Deputy Prime Minister Aziz Abdukhakimov at the government meeting on the state program, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev also touched on the sports affairs and announced the merger of the State Committee for Tourism Development and the Ministry of Sports into a single body.
“The Ministry of Sports and the State Committee for Tourism Development will be merged. The new system will be headed by Aziz Abdukhakimov, because the system needs reform. if you consider the sports fcilities in Tashkent, for example. Their performance does not even reach 50%. For the public health, this area needs to be given special attention,” the head of state said.
At the end of January, the Minister of Physical Culture and Sports of Uzbekistan Dilmurod Nabiyev was sacked.
Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister Aziz Abdukhakimov was elected chairman of the Uzbekistan Chess Federation and in January 2019, he became Rector of the Silk Road International Tourism University.
