The Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Russia is considering the possibility of producing the Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine in Uzbekistan.
He noted that a delegation from the Uzbek Ministry of Health had already visited Moscow.
“Mass vaccination will begin in Uzbekistan these days... We are considering producing the Sputnik V vaccine in Uzbekistan, where it was fast tracked. We greatly appreciate our cooperation in this area,” said Lavrov at the press conference on the results of the meeting with the Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov.
Earlier, the First Deputy Minister of Innovative Development, Director of the Center for Advanced Technologies Shakhlo Turdikulova reported that Uzbekistan plans to use two vaccines for mass vaccination against coronavirus – the Sino-Uzbek ZF-UZ-VAC 2001 and the Russian Sputnik V.
To date, only the Sino-Uzbek vaccine has been officially registered in Uzbekistan, with vaccination of the most vulnerable population due in the second decade of March.
