The monument to the scholar Muhammad al-Khwarezmi was inaugurated on March 3 in the Turkish capital Ankara. The monument was erected within the framework of the international program "Khiva - the cultural capital of the Turkic world", the Dunyo news agency reported.

The ceremony was attended by the Khorezm province governor Farhod Yermanov, the Uzbek Ambassador Alisher Agzamhodjaev, the deputy general secretary of the International Organization of Turkic Culture Bilal Çakıcı, the chairman of the Turkey-Uzbekistan inter-parliamentary friendship group Osman Mesten.

The monument is located in Ihlamur Vadisi park. The park also has a mosque, playgrounds and a Fergana cafe, created by the Ankara mayor's office with the support of the Uzbek Embassy in Turkey and members of the Uzbek diaspora.

After the official opening ceremony was held an exhibition of Uzbek national costumes and a screening of Mendirman Jaloliddin (I am Jaloliddin) movie.
