The famous children's writer Khudoyberdi Tukhtaboev died at the age of 88, the Writers’ Union said. Khudoyberdi Tukhtaboev was born on December 17, 1932 in Katta Tagob village, Fergana province. He became an orphan early, and was brought up by his grandfather and grandmother.

According to the website Arboblar.uz, in 1949 Khudoyberdi Tukhtaboev graduated from the Kokand Pedagogical School, and in 1955 - from the Tashkent State University.

He began his career as a teacher at a district school in the Fergana province, later worked as the head of the educational department and director of the school.

In 1958 he began to publish in newspapers. For 14 years he has published more than 300 feuilletons in the newspapers Evening Tashkent and Soviet Uzbekistan. His works were also published in the Gulistan, Star of the East, Campfire, Bud, Young Force, Young Guard and Rainbow magazines .

In 1958, his books Young Guard, Mystery Revealed, Magic Hat were published. Later, the novels Omanbai and Davronbai, The End of the Yellow Genie, Years and Roads, Boy with Five Children, The Avenger’s Golden Head, The War of Wizards or the Land of Sweet Melons, Heavenly People appeared.

Khudoyberdi Tukhtaboev is known to foreign readers thanks to the fairy tale The Magic Hat translated into Russian, as Ukrainian, French and a number of other languages. The book was awarded a prize at the All-Union Competition for the best children's book in 1970.

Khudoyberdi Tukhtaboev was awarded the titles Honored Worker of Culture of Uzbekistan and People's Writer of Uzbekistan.
