Uzbekistan ranked 42th, the highest among the ex-USSR countries in the World Happiness Report 2021, published by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network, an initiative of the United Nations.

The 2021 report was released Friday, ahead of the United Nations’ International Day of Happiness.

Finland is No. 1, followed by Denmark, Switzerland, Iceland and Netherlands.

The bottom three in the 149-nation list were Rwanda, Zimbabwe and Afghanistan — all of which have struggled with conflict and instability.

The World Happiness Report 2021 focused on the effects of COVID-19 and how people all over the world have fared. Our aim was two-fold, first to focus on the effects of COVID-19 on the structure and quality of people’s lives, and second to describe and evaluate how governments all over the world have dealt with the pandemic. In particular, we try to explain why some countries have done so much better than others.
