Mass vaccination against coronavirus will begin on April 1 in Uzbekistan, the Deputy Head of the Sanitary-Epidemiological Welfare and Public Health Authority Nurmat Atabekov told the Sevimli TV channel.

According to him, at the first stage, it is planned to vaccinate 330 thousand people using the AstraZeneca (Covishield) vaccine. On March 17, Uzbekistan received 660,000 doses (two doses per person) of this drug as part of the global COVAX program. The next batch of AstraZeneca vaccine is due in early April (WHO and UNICEF representatives said that this will happen in May).

Nurmat Atabekov said that the date of April 1 was chosen taking into account the preparation of the primary health care system for vaccination.

In total, in Uzbekistan, at the first stage, it is planned to vaccinate over 4.1 million people. Vaccination will be voluntary in an approved manner, for those aged 65-74 years, 75-84 years old, 85 years old and older, health workers, citizens with chronic diseases (18-65 years old), school teachers, preschool education personnel, military personnel and employees law enforcement.
