Uzbekistan's Criminal Code has been supplemented with sanctions for public calling for riots and violence against citizens. The Law on this was signed on March 20 by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

The amendments, in particular, affected the Article 244 (riots), which currently provides for punishment for organizing mass riots.

According to the amendments, a public call for mass riots and violence against citizens is punishable by a fine of 100 to 300 base values (BV=US$21) or correctional labor up to 2 years, or house arrest from 3 to 5 years, or imprisonment from 3 to 5 years.

The same actions committed by a preliminary conspiracy by a group of persons or using the media, telecommunication networks and the Internet, as well as printed or other methods of reproduction of text, are punishable by a fine from 300 to 400 base values ​​or correctional labor from 2 to 3 years or imprisonment from 5 to 10 years old.

The document took effect on March 31, 2021.
