Uzbekistan welcomes the announcement in Afghanistan of a three-day truce on the occasion of the holy holiday of Eid al-Fitr, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

“We express the hope that a ceasefire by the warring parties on these blessed days will facilitate the advancement of the political peace process in Afghanistan,” the statement said.

"Uzbekistan reiterates its firm commitment to further develop and strengthen relations of friendship and good neighborliness with the people of Afghanistan, in every possible way to support the process of establishing a lasting peace in the country, as well as to provide comprehensive assistance in building a peaceful and prosperous Afghanistan," the ministry added.

A week ago, the Taliban launched an offensive near the administrative center of Helmand - the city of Lashkar Gah. The militants first managed to push the military, however later the latter launched a counterattack, using, in particular, air support.

Last year, the Taliban also announced a three-day truce over Eid al-Fitr.
