A branch of the Russian Chemical-Technological University named after D. I. Mendeleev (RCTU) has opened in Tashkent.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Minister of Higher and Secondary Specialized Education of Uzbekistan Abduqodir Toshkulov, Deputy Head of the Presidential Directorate for Interregional and Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries Anton Rybakov and Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Dmitry Afanasyev.
The Ministry of Higher Education noted that the history of the Russian university is closely intertwined with Uzbekistan: during World War II in the fall of 1941, the university was evacuated to Kokand in the east of the country, where it operated until the spring of 1943.
Education at the Tashkent branch of the Russian Chemical Technical University began last academic year in an online format, but now more than 200 students will be able to start face-to-face studies.
The branch will open departments in materials science, technology of materials and nanomaterials and systems.
Today, 35,000 Uzbek students study at Russian universities. Over the past two years, the number of branches of Russian universities in the country has grown from four to 12, and a representative office of the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia also opened in Tashkent.
