On May 30, the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has accepted the invitation of President of the Republic of Korea Moon Jae-in, and attended the second international "Partnership for Green Growth and Global Goals - 2030" (P4G), held in Seoul online.

The summit focused on the climate change, green recovery and ensuring carbon neutrality, as well as the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the implementation of the provisions of the Paris Agreement on climate.

In his re,arks, Shavkat Mirziyoyev said that overcoming the global consequences of the Aral Sea disaster was identified as one of the priority tasks. In this regard, he thanked all international partners for their full support of the recently adopted, on Uzbekistan’s initiative, of a special resolution of the UN General Assembly on declaring the Aral Sea region a zone of environmental innovations and technologies.

He proposed to continue active joint work in this direction, including within the framework of the specially created UN Trust Fund, the Global Green Growth Institute, on the platform of the P4G partnership and other international institutions.

The President expressed serious concern about the decrease in the flow of transboundary rivers and biodiversity in the region due to climate change, greenhouse gas problems and air pollution.

Uzbekistan reaffirmed its commitment to fulfill its commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 under the Paris Agreement.

In this regard, the head of state noted that the widespread implementing of green technologies and green energy projects in Uzbekistan will allow to increase the share of renewable energy sources by more than 3 times in the next ten years.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev put forward an initiative to hold an international conference "Green Energy for Developing Countries" in 2022, as well as launch a special program to attract young people to create a "green" economy to form a culture of green consumption.

To expand practical cooperation in this important area, the President announced Uzbekistan's readiness to join the P4G partnership and become its full-fledged participant.

The event is attended by the UN Secretary General António Guterres, Presidents of the European Council Charles Michel and the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, the German Chancellor Angela Merkel, the French President Emmanuel Macron, the UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China Li Keqiang, President's Special Representative USA Climate Policy John Kerry, IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, Chairman of the Global Green Growth Institute Ban Ki-moon and OECD Secretary General Angel Gurria.
