The governments of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan have reached an agreement on the admission of Tajik citizens to military schools in Uzbekistan.

Prospective Tajik officers will be entitled to enter Uzbek military schools this year, Asia-Plus sid, citing a source in the Tajik Defense Ministry.

To date, the parties have been agreeing on how many quotas Uzbekistan will allocate each year for Tajik citizens to study at military universities and in what specialties future Tajik officers will be trained.

According to the Tajik Defense Ministry, 400 young Tajiks enroll in military universities each year. Every year, 250 future officers of the country's armed forces are admitted to the Military Institute of the Ministry of Defense of Tajikistan. The remaining 150 study at military universities in Russia, India, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan each year under intergovernmental agreements.

According to the source, on the instructions of President Emomali Rahmon, every year about 80 future officers of the national army are admitted to military universities without exams only after passing a medical examination and interview. Such benefits are granted on behalf of the President of Tajikistan only to children from orphananges and low-income families.
