The Tashkent police department (TPD) issued an official statement regarding the recent statements of the former pop singer Jakhongir Otajonov to government officials.

Jakhongir Otajonov said that the traffic police officer had placed the car in the impound. According to him, he had not been able to receive the violation ticket for nine days. He linked this case with the policy of the country's leadership. He also expressed dissatisfaction with the activities of law enforcement agencies and called the officers of the traffic police and the Interior Ministry "traitors to the state and the people", as well as "bastards".

According to him, the police did not rush to take action, when his house was "attacked" by the so called special purpose women’s unit allegedly engaged by the State Security Service.

According to the TPD, on June 17, in the Mirzo-Ulugbek district, officers of the road traffic police stopped GM Gentra car driven by a resident of the Almazar district Alisher Otajonov (Jakhongir's brother).

During the check, it was found that the driver did not have a driver's license with him, which is why the car was placed in a penalty parking lot. The press service added that the documents had not yet been provided, as a result of which the car remains on the penalty area.

“At present, there are attempts by J. Otazhonov to hide the offenses committed by his relatives and draw public attention to his everyday problems through offensive video messages addressed to law enforcement state bodies,” the TPD said in a statement.

The department reported that “due to the presence of slander and libel in the statements of Jakhongir Otajonov,” a legal assessment will be given to his statment.

In early January, Jakhongir Otajonov announced that he plans to run for president of Uzbekistan. Then he joined the "Xalq Manfaatlari" ("People's Interests") party, which had not yet passed official registration, but he left it in February "due to differences" with party members.

In May, the former singer returned to Uzbekistan from Turkey and spoke about his intention to resume the activities of the opposition party Erk. In late May, in an interview with BBC Uzbek, he reported that a group of men and women had broken into his home during a party meeting.
