On July 2, 2021, a government delegation led by the Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov held talks in Washington with the Special Representative of the United States for Reconciliation in Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Reportedly, the sides discussed the current state and the ways to resolving the Afghan conflict, as well as measures to promote peace in the region as soon as possible.

The parties underscored there is mutual intention for further support of inter-Afghan negotiations and boosting regional trade, the implementation of investment and infrastructure projects, for Afghanistan's swift integration into regional processes.

Zalmay Khalilzad confirmed his participation in the conference “Central and South Asia: Regional Connectivity. Threats and Opportunities” in Tashkent on July 15-16 this year.
