Online talks were held between the foreign ministers of Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan on July 7 at the initiative of the UN Center for Preventive Diplomacy, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry.

Reportedly, the meeting pointed to the importance of consolidating regional efforts to peacefully resolve the Afghan crisis, restore the country's economy, and respect the principle of the leading role of the Afghan people in the development of the political process in the country.

“The parties focused on the importance of joint counteraction to the international terrorism, the development by the countries of Central Asia of effective steps in this area and expressed their support for the further development and expansion of political, economic, cultural and humanitarian ties between Afghanistan and Central Asia. In this context, the wide integration of Afghanistan in regional processes will contribute to the early establishment of a stable and long-term peace in the country,” the ministry added.

The key importance of the implementation on the territory of Afghanistan, with the assistance of the countries of the region, of various infrastructure projects in the energy, transport and communication spheres was stated.

Separately, the parties touched upon the significance of the upcoming this month in Tashkent International Conference “Central and South Asia: Regional Interconnectedness. Challenges and Opportunities”.

A thorough exchange of views also took place on the priority areas for providing Afghanistan with all possible assistance, including humanitarian assistance during a pandemic.
