The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice-President of the European Commission Josep Borrell, speaking at an international conference on the interconnectivity of the Central and South Asia on July 16 in Tashkent, touched upon the situation in Afghanistan.

“We, those who have gathered here today - neighboring countries, regional stakeholders, international partners - we assume a collective responsibility to promote peace, security and development in Afghanistan,” Josep Borrell said.

“We must do this through constructive engagement for a peace that will be based on negotiations without continued violence,” he added.

Josep Borrell added that the EU firmly supports inclusive processes in Afghanistan through a political solution to the conflict in the country. According to him, the Taliban’s military victory will result in the "non-recognition and isolation of the entire region."

The head of European diplomacy also stressed that in the future, cooperation between Afghanistan and the EU will be based on the democratic achievements that have taken place in this country over the past decade.
