On August 9, government delegations of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan began negotiations in the city of Cholpon-Ata, Issyk-Kul region, on the demarcation of certain sections of the state border, the 24.kg news publication said.
According to special representative of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Nazirbek Borubaev, the parties vowed to clarify the positions of the countries on previously unagreed sections of the border.
He said that to date, 1,170 km of the border between the countries had been clarified, and that now it was necessary to resolve the issue of the remaining ones. Nazirbek Borubayev said that the governments of the two countries were planninh to complete border issues in 2022. Negotiations are expected to last until 17 August.
The length of the border between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan is 1m378 km, 85% of which were delienated and ratified by the 2017 agreement.
