On August 30-31, the Global Infrastructure Cooperation Conference (GICC 2022) was held in Seoul, South Korea. The event was attended by the First Deputy Minister of Housing and Communal Services of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Chairman of the Board of Uzsuvtaminot Sohib Saifnazarov, who briefed the participants about the work and projects implemented in the field of drinking water supply and sanitation in the country in recent years.
In his remarks, Saifnazarov touched upon the work that is planned to be carried out until 2026. During this period, it is planned to draw $5.5 billion in investments to the industry, or five times more than in the previous 5 years.
In 2022-2026, it is planned to build 2,875 drinking and 283 water disposal facilities, 33.7 thousand km of networks in the country. As a result, by 2026, it is expected that the population will be centrally provided with drinking water up to 90 percent, and the level of coverage with sanitation services will reach 35 percent.
South Korea is one of the closest partners of Uzsuvtaminot. In cooperation with the Korean K-Water, a number of works are being carried out in the country to modernize outdated networks, train and improve the skills of personnel, introduce smart water meters through new technological solutions, and manage water supply.
In June, Uzsuvtaminot and K-Water signed a memorandum of cooperation to build capacity in the water supply and sanitation sector in the country. The parties will jointly collect information necessary to create a training center in the field of water supply and sanitation in Uzbekistan.
